No Governor Has Worked More Effectively With President Trump Than John Bel Edwards

No governor has worked more effectively together with President Donald Trump than John Bel Edwards. That may surprise some. However, since the President has promised to "Put America First" and the governor has selected a "Put Louisiana First" theme for his administration we should expect nothing less.

"John Bel and I have a great relationship, although he is a Democrat. He is doing a great job." - President Trump

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards issued this statement as a meeting with the President and Vice President was announced for April 29, 2020:

"I look forward to having a substantive conversation with President Trump about Louisiana’s response to the COVID-19 outbreak, our plans to reopen additional businesses next monthand our ongoing needs as we surge our testing capacity to 200,000 tests per month beginning in May. I am appreciative of the president’s attention to Louisiana and his support for our people during this difficult time for our state. Brighter days are ahead for Louisiana and by working together with our federal partners, I know we will get through this.

I will also thank the president and vice president for the many ways the federal government has stepped up to help Louisiana as we have navigated the past few months, from millions of pieces of (personal protective equipment),hundreds of ventilators, support for more than 1,000 members of the National Guard, field hospitals and public health service teams, early support of mobile testing sites and access to federal health officials and other experts as we have made many critical, life-saving decisions for Louisianans.”

At a time when both leaders have been tasked with difficult decisions their unprecedented cooperation has saved many lives. Yesterday John Bel Edwards was able to lift some restrictions on Louisiana residents that we all want to see end as soon as possible. He also followed the current guidance from the White House by extending the stay at home guidance through May 15 due to the hard hit status of Louisiana. By removing politics from the partnership between the White House and Louisiana and putting people first our Governor John Bel Edwards and our President Donald Trump have done great service to our people.
